Upgrading from the iPhone 6s to the iPhone 8 Plus

As you probably already know, Apple just released their new iPhone models — the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. They also announced the iPhone X which will be released in early November. I know a lot of people who are wanting an upgrade are waiting for the iPhone X, but I thought the 8 was going to be better for me.

UPGRADING TO IPHONE 8 PLUS

I had the iPhone 6s (the last version with the headphone jack) and I really liked it. The camera quality was great — that’s how I take all of my blog photos — and it was a good size for me. But it’s been a couple of years now, and my phone was starting to run a little slower, and the battery life was not as good as it used to be. So, I decided to upgrade from the iPhone 6s to the iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone 8 Plus

The first thing I noticed was obviously the size. The iPhone 8 Plus is way bigger than the 6s. I had played with the Plus before, but I really am noticing how big it is now that I’ve had some time to use it for more than 10 minutes.

The next big thing I noticed was the design — the iPhone 8 Plus doesn’t have a headphone jack, or a real home button. Also the back of the phone is completely glass which I really like.

My new iPhone 8 Plus also came with iOS 11 which I hadn’t downloaded on my iPhone 6s. I like iOS 11 so far, and everything looks really great on the new phone.

The camera is obviously a lot better than what I had before. There’s two camera on the back of the phone and you I can now use portrait mode! I’ve really been loving it.

IPHONE 8 CASES + POPSOCKETS

I had watched a few youtube videos about the glass on the iPhone 8 getting scratched in your pocket, so I started looking for some cases and screen protectors online. I ordered a cute semi-hard plastic marble-looking case that arrived quickly and it was nice for the first few days I had it. I just transferred over my same Popsocket I’ve been using for forever and it’s still super sticky and works great. If you want to design your own Popsocket or buy off the Popsocket website.

I found the prettiest glitter case online and ordered it right away. It just arrived so I’ll be sure to do a full review it after I use it a while (Review HERE). I also bought some screen protectors because I’m not trying to hurt my new phone. The protectors were easy to put on and were pretty similar to the ones I used for my iPad. I just feel a lot better having a screen protector on the phone.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

So far I’m really liking my new iPhone 8 Plus. I’ve already gotten used to the larger screen, and when I see my old iPhone 6s or my 5s, they look like little toys. The phone is a lot heavier than I’m used to/thought it would be, so I’ve had to learn new ways to hold it so it feels secure.

The camera quality and the battery life have been way better. I’m really liking the portrait modes and the sharpness of my photos. I thought it would be weird with the headphone jack missing, but it hasn’t been a problem for me. The battery life on the 8 Plus is so great, I don’t have to even try to charge my phone during the day, so it doesn’t matter if I have my headphones plugged in. Also, I’m still able to use my same noise-cancelling headphones with the dongle provided. I think eventually, I’d like to get the wireless AirPods.

Do you have the iPhone 8 Plus? What do you think? Are you getting the iPhone X? Are you keeping what you have? Or upgrading to something else? Let me know on twitter or Insta; I love hearing from you!
