It’s finally here — my Hawaii travel diary! We recently went on a trip to Hawaii and we had the best time. I posted some pictures on instagram along the way, but here’s a recap of our entire Hawaii experience:

HAWAII TRAVEL DIARY

Oahu

We flew into Oahu and took a taxi to our hotel — the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort. This was our first time in Oahu and I was excited because our hotel was right on the beach on the main strip in Waikiki.

Waikiki beach was super busy with people and umbrellas everywhere. I’ve never been to a beach that popular. The water and the beach were beautiful; I love how everything in Hawaii is so vibrant.

We visited all the shops in the outdoor mall across the street from out hotel and they had a Sugarfina store that I’ve always wanted to go to. I bought a box of the Kyoto Blossom sugar candies and they were so pretty and tasted great.

We went on the Diamond Head hike while we were in Oahu and the views were amazing. I did a whole post on my hike experience, and I definitely recommend doing it next time you visit Oahu.

We also got to visit the Iolani Palace and see the King Kamehameha statue — it was just like an episode of Hawaii Five-0!

We were only in Oahu for a couple days but we had a great time there.

Maui

From Oahu, we took a 30 minute flight over to Maui — my favorite island. We took a shuttle bus from the airport over to our hotel, the Royal Lahaina. We have stayed there before and really like that hotel because it seems more private than the other hotels along kaanapali beach.

We spent most of our time relaxing at the beach and enjoying all of the beautiful sights. Maui is a lot more low key than Oahu. It’s the perfect place to really relax and leave any stressful thoughts behind.

We didn’t rent a car since we could get to most places on foot, or taking the free trolley. We did take an uber to and from Lahaina a few times (use my code bend13689ue for $5 off each of your first two uber rides), or we just took the city bus into town.

We were about a 15 minute walk or trolley ride into Whaler’s Village where there are some cute shops and a few restaurants. There are a lot more shops and restaurants on Front Street, so we would either uber there from our hotel or take the bus from Whaler’s Village.

Sale Pepe | Lahaina, Maui
Frida’s Beach House | Lahaina, Maui
Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice | Lahaina, Maui

Our favorite places to eat around there were Sale Pepe, and Frieda’s Beach House. And of course, Ululani ‘s Shave Ice for a classic Hawaiian treat.

We spent most of our time at the beach just laying out and swimming in the ocean. There are so few people on Kaanapali beach compared to Waikiki beach in Oahu, that it felt like our own private beach. You already know that I brought my Erin Condren Life Planner with me on our trip. It pretty much goes everywhere with me, and I used it to memory plan our trip at the end of each day. I love looking back at things like that and remembering our trip in a fun way.

Snorkeling at Black Rock

We brought our snorkel gear with us again and went snorkeling near black rock, not too far from our hotel. I used my GoPro to film under water and we got some fun pictures of all the sea turtles and fish there. I review my experience with the GoPro and taking it on our trip in this post.

I didn’t want to leave; we had such a fun time. Look at this amazing double rainbow ^. Hawaii is so perfect.
