Now that spring is here, I wanted to make a stylish and cute beaded necklace with my flower and seed beads. This necklace was super simple to make and it makes me happy to wear it. Keep reading for a step by step tutorial:
If you have made some of my other DIY jewelry, you probably have all the materials you need already!
To make these tiny flower + seed bead necklaces, you’ll need:
- 11/0 seed beads (preferred)
- seed beads (optional)
- flower beads
- braided beading thread
- crimps
- jump rings (4mm & 5mm)
- jewelry closures
- pliers
- crimper
- scissors
All these items linked are the exact beads and tools that I used to make my jewelry, but you can use whatever beads you like.
FLOWER + SEED BEAD NECKLACE DIY
Measure and cut braided beading thread
Because these flower and seed beads are so tiny, it’s important to use the right thread. This braided beading thread is strong enough to secure your necklace, and thin enough to fit through the tiny beads.
Get started by measuring your neck for the length you want your necklace to hit. I wanted more of a choker style necklace. Whatever length you decide, double that measurement and add a couple of inches. So if you wanted a 14″ (35.5cm) necklace, cut your braided beading thread to ~31″ (79cm).
Apply a crimp to the braided beading thread
Fold your braided beading thread in half. Slide the two tail ends down through the ring-end of the crimp. Drag the crimp toward the folded end of the braided beading thread. Secure the crimp with a crimping tool to ensure your thread can’t slip out.
There are many types of jewelry crimps and any of them can work, but I prefer these crimps because they have a ring already built in. The built-in ring makes it easier to attach the closures later on.
Attach the jump ring + jewelry closure
Using pliers, open a 4mm jump ring and join the beading thread crimp loop with the jewelry closure. Close the jump ring.
Plan out your bead pattern
If you want a specific bead pattern, now is the time to plan it out.
I had a random pack of seed beads and was going for an eclectic pattern, so I poured out all my beads and only planned out the spacing I wanted between seed beads and flower beads.
String your beads
Use both tails of the braided beading thread to string your beads in your preferred pattern/design. Continue stringing beads until the necklace is the length you want.
For my necklace, I picked up 14 seed beads and then a flower bead throughout the length of my necklace.
Attach crimp + jump ring
Once your necklace is the desired length, it’s time to add the final crimp and jump ring.
Insert the two tail ends up through the tube-end of the crimp, so that the tails are pointing up through the crimp’s ring. Slide the crimp down so that it’s close to the beads, and use a crimping tool to secure the crimp. Cut the excess braided beading thread.
Using pliers, open a 5mm jump ring and attach it to the crimp loop. Close the jump ring.
FLOWER + SEED BEAD NECKLACE

Now that your flower and seed bead necklace is complete, you can wear it or make more for a layered look.

I love this necklace for an effortless spring/summer (or year round) necklace that is a lot of fun to make. I even made a matching bracelet!
