2020 Knitting Project Status

At the beginning of the year, I shared my knitting project plans. I wanted to challenge myself with new techniques and practice my brioche. Now that we’re halfway through the year, I thought it’d be good to check in and share my progress and changes in my plan.

PROJECT PROGRESS

I started the year with my Marled Magic Sweater by Stephen West. This sweater was so much fun to knit; I finished it in ~1.5 months. I loved knitting the different sections and learning new stitches. This is probably my favorite knit I’ve done so far.

Next on my list was the Tundra Jumper by The Petite Knitter. I had knit this before for my husband, but it was really fun to knit one for myself. I loved the color work and getting to knit in the round again. This sweater took me just over a month to finish.

My next project was the Briochevron Blanket by Stephen West. I am still working on this blanket and have ~25% to go. I just finished; check out my knitting experience. It’s been really fun to knit; I love the brioche and watching all the colors come together. But it’s really repetitive so I found myself thinking about what else I want to knit next. Originally, I’d planned to knit the DK Toe-Up Brioche socks by Lavanya Patricella, but I think I need a break from brioche.

CHANGES TO MY PLAN

I’ve decided to switch up my knitting plans for the rest of the year. Here’s what I’m thinking about now:

Magnolia Little

I wanted to make something new for my niece and found this cute cardigan. It has a leaf-like lace detailing at the bottom and seems like it’ll be fun/challenging to knit. I am looking forward to knitting this for a change of pace once my Briochevron Blanket is done (UPDATE: My Briochevron Blanket is complete!), and I think it’ll go by pretty quickly since it’s a small knit.

UPDATE: I finished my Magnolia Little; it didn’t go as expected, but I think it’s cute. Check out my knitting experience.

Favo Sweater

I had found a really intricate cable-knit sweater that I liked, but felt it was too advanced for me. I’ve never knit cables before, but I wanted to give it a try. I saw this pattern and really loved the look. It has some cables in front, and different textures all over for a modern/cute look. I found some yarn that I want to use for this sweater, but it’s kind of speckled/variegated — so I’m hoping it won’t take away from the cabling/texture.

UPDATE: My Favo Sweater is complete and I love it! Check out my knitting experience post.

I still want to make this cute little sweater from my original knitting plan. I think it’ll be fun to knit and I’ll get to use some of my extra yarn/scraps that I’ve slowly been accumulating. I like these patchy sweaters with different stitches and textures; they seem so fun and special to me. I think this will be a nice contrast from the Magnolia Little — so my niece can have a sweet/”professional” sweater, and a magical quirky sweater.

I feel like I see more shawls being knit than any other garment. I’ve never knit a shawl, and haven’t really been interested in them because they’re not really my style. But this shawl has so many textures and different stitches that I think it would be super fun to knit.

Bundled Up Socks

These socks look like a lot of fun. I would love some rainbow socks that are a little more detailed than the vanilla socks that I usually knit. I miss using super small needles too, so I’m really looking forward to working on these.

Basic Mohair Cardigan

This cardigan looks pretty simple, and hopefully I’ll be a cardigan professional after knitting the Magnolia Little and Pengweeno. I liked this cardigan because it seemed slouchy and comfy, and has big puff sleeves.

UPDATE: I finished my mohair cardigan! I made the Happiness Cardigan and it’s a pretty good dupe for the Madewell X Maiami one, but less expensive. Check out my knitting experience post here!

DK Toe Up Brioche Socks

If I’m ready to tackle brioche again, I would love to knit these socks. They look so unique and fun. Now that I’ve had more experience with brioche, these don’t seem as intimidating as before.

WIP UPDATES

I usually only knit one project at a time to completion, but I’ve been thinking that it might be fun to have a few projects going at a time. I’m hesitant to try that because I feel like I may end up with a bunch of half-done projects that never get finished. :/ It seems kind of overwhelming to me. We’ll see! Check back on my blog or on my Ravelry Project Page for updates on what I’m working on!
