MARC JACOBS BEAUTY | Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation REVIEW

Back in August, I told you about my Sephora haul where I picked up the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation for my birthday. I’ve had a couple of months to use the product and I’m ready to give a review!

First off, there is NO SPF in this foundation and I am all about protecting my skin from the sun’s UV rays. I’ll use a sunscreen (usually Neutrogena’s dry touch SPF) as a moisturizer before applying the foundation.

Cost

$48 for 1oz. Kind of pricy, I think, for what you really are getting.

The foundation comes in a sleek glass bottle with a shiny black cap that removes to reveal a pump dispenser. I always prefer a pump because it allows me to control the amount of foundation I use and it’s more hygienic than an open bottle or compact. The bottle is very substantial, and I’m sure that it’s part of that high price tag, but it’s heavy and kind of bulky if you were to travel with it.

Consistency

The formula really is different than other liquid foundations. The “gel” is almost smooth like a primer. It’s still runny like a liquid, but thicker and very light weight. The gel does make it nice to apply though and a little goes a long way. One pump can give me light coverage for my face and neck.

Application

I apply the foundation with my Sephora Pro #44 stippling brush. It’s very sheer, but buildable up to medium coverage. I like this kind of coverage a lot because I often wear BB cream, especially during summer, but the Marc Jacobs foundation provides a more polished look that’s still really subtle.

Finish

Although it goes on like a liquid, it dries to a powder-like finish. I like that I don’t need to apply a setting powder if I don’t choose. It can be shiny sometimes, but it usually has to do with me applying tons of sunscreen beforehand.muffinchanel genius gel marc jacobs 22 bisque light label

Wear

Coverage last all day for me without reapplying. My skin is normal to dry, so I can’t say how it will work if you have more oily skin, but I think that the “hydrating gel” might slip around during warmer temperatures or if your skin is slightly more oily.

Removal

I always use my Clarisonic Mia and Purity to take off my make up at night; it gets everything off. When I wash my face after wearing the Genius Gel foundation, you can definitely “feel” it on your skin. It’s like a waterproof mask on your face — I don’t like that feeling; but it comes off easily enough and I’m good to go with my night time treatments.

Overall, I really like this foundation. With 17 color shades to choose from, you’re sure to find one that works for you. The price is slightly high for what it’s worth to me so I can’t say that i’ll be repurchasing. I do really like the foundation though and I think it will last me a long time with how little you need.

Yeah, I’ve really been liking it. I don’t think I’ll repurchase though — I’ve been thinking about trying one of the Nars Sheer Matte or Sheer Glow foundations when I’m all out of the MJ one. 🙂
