I’ve had a Tamagotchi Paradise for a while now and I’m still really enjoying my cute virtual pet. In honor of my current Chodrachotchi turning 100 today, I wanted to make it even cuter by swapping to a customized shell! Keep reading for step by step instructions for changing a Tamagotchi Paradise shell:
CUSTOM TAMAGOTCHI SHELL
I knew I wanted a see-through custom shell, so I started looking online. I found the cutest custom Tamagotchi Paradise shells on etsy from the seller NAJI810. They restock ~2 weeks, so I had to wait a while before the color I wanted was available.
I ordered a custom shell in a rainbow gradient, custom buttons, and a custom spinner knob for myself and my niece. I was super excited to swap out to this new shell. Shipping was good through Yanwen and a last-mile courier, and took 11 days to get to me in California.
HOW TO SWAP A TAMAGOTCHI PARADISE SHELL
Changing the Paradise shell is pretty straight forward, but you’ll want to be careful since there are tiny screws and you don’t want to scratch any of the components.
What You Need
- small Philips head screwdriver #0
- a solid color clean, soft work surface (recommended)
- plastic wrap (optional)
- new Tamagotchi Paradise shell (optional buttons, spinner knob)
Disassemble the Old Shell
Place the Tamagotchi face down on your working surface.
Use the screwdriver to remove the back plate and remove the batteries.
Use the screwdriver to remove the four corner screws and gently remove the back casing. Be aware of the clear tab at the top, the spinner knob, and the metal spring that may come loose.
Transfer out the battery/electronic component.
If you need to transfer the outer faceplate design or the plastic screen cover, remove them now. I recommend using the plastic wrap to protect the screen cover when you remove/install it since they can scratch easily.
Prepare the New Shell
The new Tamagotchi Paradise shell came with a complimentary screen cover but I tried for almost 40 minutes to press that little plastic cover into the new case and it didn’t fit. I tried to file it down and make it press in, but I eventually gave up and had to transfer the original screen cover over to the new shell.
Install the outer faceplate design and the plastic screen cover to your new Tamagotchi Paradise shell.
At this point, I was getting really excited. I thought my faceplate design looked great with my new shell. My original screen cover popped right in and fit perfectly. I immediately installed a screen protector because I want to protect it from scratches.
Place the Tamagotchi face down on your working surface. Insert the three buttons into the new shell. Place the rubber button covers on top of each button.
I had new buttons to better match my new shell, and I reused the rubber button covers.
Transfer in the battery/electronic component.
Insert the clear plastic tab at the top left.
I had to assemble the new spinner knob by inserting the two plastic pieces and then reusing the original spring.
Insert the spinner knob (with the spiring inside) onto the clear plastic plug in the electronic component. Ensure the center hexagonal screw is seated in place.
Use the screwdriver to tighten the four corner screws and secure the back casing.
Insert the batteries and use the screwdriver to secure the back plate.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I love how this new Tamagotchi Paradise case looks. Mine has a little shimmer glitter inside too. The transparent gradient is so pretty and it feels like my Paradise is a little jewel.
The fit is perfect and I’m so happy with everything. I did have an issue with the complimentary screen cover, but my original screen cover fit perfectly.
The only other call out I have is that the new shell doesn’t have a solid closure to attach a charm. There is a slight gap in the charm loop area so any charm I have just slips out. I would need to get a thicker string or chain.
I saw my niece over the weekend and we swapped out her Paradise shell and were able to connect our tamas together. All of the connections were good between the new shells. I’m really happy with this new shell!
